Hurricane season officially started on June 1. Virginia has been impacted by several storms over the past 10 years including Gaston, Isabelle & Irene. The time to take action and prepare for a storm is now. Most property insurance policies provide coverage for wind damage that results from a hurricane. Some policies have special named storm/hurricane deductibles that are higher than your normal deductible. Check your policy and contact your agent with any questions you might have. Some named storm deductibles are as high as 5% which is $10,000 on a $200,000 home! Besides double checking your insurance policy make sure you have some basic supplies available in case a hurricane impacts our area.

Items to have in your emergency kit should include:

    Non perishable food

    Battery Powered Radio

    First Aid Kit

    Manual Can Opener for Food

    Extra cell phone chargers

    Infant Formula & Diapers

    Pet Food

    Garbage Bags

We hope this hurricane season isn't very active but in case it is please be prepared! Our office would be happy to review your insurance coverages with you. We can be reached at 804-559-1200.
